Can I run Enviro Data on my MAC?

Enviro Data requires Windows and Microsoft Office (Microsoft 365) and will not run on the Mac OS. However, you can use it with your Mac by using Parallels to run Windows on your Mac. Instructions can be found here How to Install Windows on Mac.

Another Option is to use a virtual machine like a Windows 365 Cloud PC with Enviro Data installed on it.

If you are working from an office environment where you have multiple users and/or both PCs and Macs, Geotech can provide you with a Microsoft Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) environment running in the cloud that can be accessed from your PC, Mac, tablet or smartphone. There is also an option to use AVD with any modern (HTML compliant) web browser like Edge, Chrome, Firefox, Safari, etc.

Contact Geotech to find out more.

Geotech recommends using Windows 11 with the current patches and Microsoft (Office) 365. While supported by Geotech, Microsoft has stated Windows 10 support will expire October 14, 2025.

While not recommended, Enviro Data should work with older versions of Office back to 2003 and Windows 7 and 8.1. Due to the increased macro security added in Access 2007 additional minor setup steps may be required after installing the software and before using it.

What are the hardware requirements to run Enviro Data?

Since Enviro Data runs in Windows based Microsoft Access, it will run on current model Windows 11 computers with 8 GB of RAM and a HD monitor (1920 X 1080 resolution) satisfactorily. (A monitor with a low resolution may not be able to display some of the larger forms without having to scroll up and down.) A fast CPU and more memory will perform better, especially with large databases, but no special graphics are needed.

We recommend using a battery backup / uninterruptible power supply (UPS) for both the computer and network to prevent data loss in the case of power failure. Databases are especially sensitive to loss of power or power spikes and using a UPS can help prevent data loss and/or database corruption. If your database is stored on a server, it should also have power protection. Also, if the computer does not have a backup system in place, we recommend you use one so you will be able to recover from data loss. Both a local and cloud backup is recommended.

Will Enviro Data run on a Macintosh?

Boot Camp from Apple (and other Windows emulators) allows you to run Windows on your Mac. You can then run MS Office and Enviro Data under Windows. Only one operating system can be running at a time, so you’ll have to restart your Mac to switch between OS X and Windows.

Geotech can also set you up with a Windows 365 PC, an Azure VM or Asure Virtual Desktop so you can connect to and run Enviro Data from your Mac.
